The new role of Freight Development Manager position is accountable for the development and implementation the freight strategy for the business. Key will be the ability to build a solid pipeline of freight opportunities to ensure Porterbrook maximises market opportunities through developing new products to meet industry needs, create compelling propositions and seek long term partnership opportunities through collaboration with Network Rail and Fright Operating Companies.

Main aspects of the role -
⦁ Maintain thorough knowledge of freight customers’ businesses and anticipate future plans
⦁ Ensure close relationship with key personnel within each respective customer, freight end users, potential suppliers, DfT and other stakeholders in the freight market
⦁ Maintain thorough knowledge of the freight market and evaluate impact on Porterbrook business or potential business with customers, suppliers or other stakeholders
⦁ Maintain thorough knowledge of political, strategic, personnel or regulatory changes occurring in existing or potential freight markets
⦁ Create a stakeholder map supplemented by and engagement plan for each opportunity
⦁ To develop the financial aspects of the freight strategy, including any investment budgets required to enter the market and to manage the overall budget during the financial year

You will have a proven record in freight sales and leasing, a deep understanding of the freight sector from a rolling stock perspective and with experience of creating and implementing freight strategies.

There is a need for a sound understanding of the Railway Industry post privatisation, and you should be experienced in dealing with budgetary control, customer and supplier liaison. Initially the role will be stand alone, with support from the other areas of the Porterbrook business.

Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are required as you will work with a wide range of external suppliers/customers along with the internal teams across the Porterbrook business. Naturally you will have a high level of professional and personal gravitas with the ability to create strong commercial business cases
