Glasgow based Russell Timber Technology is one of the UK’s leading Sub-Contractors offering Design, Manufacture, Supply and Installation of precision engineered timber and alu-clad windows and doors for large scale new build and refurbishment housing projects.  Due to continuing growth and a strong order book, we are looking to recruit an experienced Design Manager.

The role of the Architectural Design Manager will be a new and senior role within the business, taking design responsibility for the technical design and delivery of supply & install projects.  These projects are delivered under contract where RTT hold a design liability and are required to supply design and installation drawings and solution compliant with current building regulations and standards listed by the client.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Taking a leadership role in the management of the Design Process for our Design and Install Contracts (windows and doors), ensuring that design works carried out internally and external to the business are completed in-line with the contract requirements, both technically and timeously.
  • Direct Management and support of the internal Drawings Team to ensure we meet the Client expectations of timeline and quality.
  • Co-ordinate the Design Process both internally and externally working closely with all relevant parties, including where required: the Client, Employer’s Representatives, Key Stakeholders, Design Team and Legislative Bodies. Together with the creation and submittal of the Programme for Design & Design Responsibility Matrices.
  • Ensuring that contracts and installations are completed on time and that communication with the customer is clear concise, regarding timeline and technical content
  • The role will require input at the Pre-Construction phase with support for the Estimating Team and the Client on best design solutions where required.
  • Chairing Design Team meetings and detail Design Technical Workshops, prepare Project Reports, Sample Schedules and Technical Submittals.
  • Working with our Design, Manufacturing & Installation Teams to reduce costs, delays, and disruption on site by ensuring use of the most effective Design Methods and Concepts. Awareness of Value Engineering to ensure contracts remain on budget.

Essential Requirements

We are looking for Candidates to be either qualified or part qualified Architectural Technicians in Architectural Detailing using AutoCAD in a Housing Environment. 

Candidates must have experience of running their own jobs and staff, showing strong communication skills at all levels. Strong attention to detail is required, along with commercial acumen to ensure we deliver profitable outcomes on our projects.
