Production/Factory Manager

Glasgow based Russell Timber Technology is one of the UK’s leading manufacturers of precision engineered timber External & Fire door sets for large scale new build and refurbishment housing projects.  Due to continuing growth and a strong order book, we are looking to recruit an experienced Production/Factory Manager to oversee the running of the factory.

This role will be responsible for the smooth operation of our joinery workshop/factory overseeing the four departmental Team Leaders, Stores Team & 35 plus employees working over five departments.  This role will work hand in hand with Production Scheduling and Material Procurement, reporting directly to the Operations Director.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Production/Factory Manager leads with the following teams –

  • Scheduling - to plan & create schedules for all factory operations, working with the department Team Leaders to ensure order timelines are met and reporting actual performance against planned
  • Technical and Engineering - to continuously improve processes and cost-efficiency, ensuring manufacturing best practice is followed
  • Purchasing and Dispatch - to ensure materials are available for manufacture, and finished products are dispatched to agreed delivery schedules

In addition the role is accountable to:

  • Ensure correct staffing levels to achieve schedule and customer requirements
  • Motivate, lead and develop staff
  • Carrying out appraisals, reviews, disciplinary and grievance procedures
  • Maintain and improve Health and Safety system to ensure a safe and efficient working environment

This is a hands-on role where you will manage the end to end process of turning raw materials into high end client specified products, as such you must be resilient with the drive and determination to juggle many competing priorities to the highest of standards and have a “right first time-every time” mentality.

Skills and Person Specification

Our ideal candidate must have a minimum of three years’ experience in a similar role, ideally with working knowledge of joinery manufacture & painting processes

  • Leadership and decision­ making skills with the ability to motivate, influence, and train staff
  • Working Knowledge of ISO9001 & ISO14001 quality systems
  • Able to interact with staff & customers at all levels
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, with excellent Excel skills

Education and Qualifications

  • HND or Degree in Business/Manufacturing or similar qualification in a related field
  • IOSH Managing Safely would be an advantage
